How often to clean gutters in OC

Twice a year is the standard: once in late spring after jacaranda and eucalyptus finish dropping, and once in early winter before the rainy season begins. Homes under mature ficus, pine, or oak canopy usually need quarterly service.

Should you get gutter guards?

It depends. Micro-mesh guards installed by a reputable company reduce cleaning frequency significantly but never eliminate it — pollen, seed pods, and shingle grit still collect on top and get carried in over time. Cheap plastic screens usually create hidden clogs and are worse than no guards. If you have heavy tree cover, high-quality micro-mesh is worth the investment. If you don't, twice-a-year cleaning is more cost-effective.
